West Bountiful is a tight-knit city of about 5,900 residents in southeastern Davis County, tucked between the Wasatch Mountains and the Great Salt Lake. Founded in 1848 and built on soil so fertile it once shipped 200 to 300 train carloads of Yellow Sweet Spanish onions a year, the city still carries that agricultural, horse-property character today. Homes commonly sit on quarter-acre to full-acre lots, equestrian properties are common, and century-old Victorian and Bungalow-style homes stand alongside newer single-family construction on tree-lined streets.
Downtown Salt Lake City is just 11 miles south, about a 15 to 20 minute drive down I-15 (Exits 316 and 317 both serve the city), and Salt Lake City International Airport is roughly 13 miles away, about a 15-minute drive.
Families here are zoned into Davis School District: West Bountiful Elementary sits right in the city, students move on to Bountiful Junior High, and finish at Viewmont High School, one of the district's top-rated high schools (GreatSchools rating: 8/10).
For hiking and trail time, the Legacy Nature Trail runs 3.1 miles along the Legacy Nature Preserve on the city's western edge, an easy, flat dirt path popular for birding and dog walking, while Mueller Park Trail, a well-loved canyon hike into the Wasatch foothills, is about 10 minutes away.
Daily life centers on The Commons at West Bountiful, where Texas Roadhouse, Five Guys, Café Rio, El Dorado, Number One Thai Fusion, and Aji Rocoto's Peruvian rotisserie chicken sit alongside Costco, Lowe's, and Petco. West Bountiful City Park anchors the community with three baseball fields, a six-hoop basketball court, two sand volleyball courts, a large covered bowery that seats 300, and an 0.8-mile walking loop, and the city added four public pickleball courts on 800 West. Residents also turn out for Founders' Day, Independence Day celebrations, and a summer concert series.
